Wife of ex-Renegade Tobacco owner doesn't want $88K seized
(Winston Salem Journal) The wife of Calvin Phelps, the former Renegade Holdings Inc. owner, has asked a U.S. Bankruptcy Court judge to dismiss a trustee’s request to seize $88,400 discovered in a safe deposit box at a Bank of the Carolinas branch.
Peter Tourtellot — the trustee representing bankrupt Mooresville tobacco companies Renegade Holdings Inc., Renegade Tobacco Co. and Alternative Brands Inc. — requested permission earlier this month to seize $103,764 from safe-deposit boxes belonging to Calvin Phelps and Lisa Yamaoka Phelps.
Calvin Phelps will be sentenced Sept. 19 in U.S. District Court in Mississippi. Continued
