An Unlikely Cigar Roller

Caption reads: "The World's champion home-run slugger has entered the cigar manufacturing business and is learning it, as he learned baseball, from start to finish. He'll do in any box--pitcher's box, batter's box or cigar box. Watch his smoke!" Dated October 30, 1919 (Library of Congress). According to Cigar Aficionado Magazine, "Ruth had put some of his money into a small local cigar factory [in Boston] that manufactured a Babe Ruth nickel number with his picture on every wrapper. 'I smoked them until I was blue in the face,' he once complained." The article goes on to say that "He also smoked pipes, cigarettes occasionally, and used enough snuff for any other two players."
