Bankruptcy trustee wants judge to deny Phelps’ stay


(news-record.com) The bankruptcy trustee for three defunct Mocksville tobacco companies is asking that a judge deny an attempt by convicted felon Calvin Phelps to halt their final liquidation stage.
Phelps, representing himself, said in a legal notice Sept. 2 that he wants a stay in proceedings for the companies he once owned and operated: Renegade Holdings, Renegade Tobacco and Alternative Brands.
Phelps filed his complaint from a federal correctional facility in Beaver, W.Va., saying the formal complaint would be filed the week of Sept. 8. Continued
