(Southeast Farm Press) ... South Carolina tobacco is produced in 12 Pee Dee counties located predominately in the northeastern part of the state. Since the end of the quota system and buyout, tobacco acreage in South Carolina ranges between 14,000 and 15,000 acres with an annual value of about $56 million. The crop is grown by about 250 farming operations under contract with tobacco companies. Continued
