Bluegrass helps tell Tobacco War tale

 

(The Leaf Chronicle) ... Expected to be one of the major highlights of this year’s series of events is the production of David Alford’s Smoke: A Ballad of the Nightriders. The play, which saw its debut at the festival in 2010, is a musical theater representation of Tennessee’s infamous Black Patch Tobacco Wars.
“There are a lot of stories told about Tennessee, and told powerfully,” Anna Filippo, this year’s director and producer of Smoke said. “This play deals with a part of American history that is one of the most bloody and violent times for our country between the Civil War and the Civil rights movement – and there are still people in this area who know nothing about it.” Continued
