Father of the Flame

(Smokingpipes.com) Imagine you've just settled in to a semi-comfortable seat, complete with a "for only $1.25 more, you get 5X the amount!" barrel of popcorn in your lap, a filled one-size-fits-most drink holder on the fore of the armrest, and the theater darkens. The feature begins with a quote in white font, scrolling elegantly across a pitch screen: "A pipe is the fountain of contemplation, the companion of the wise; and a man who smokes, thinks like a philosopher and acts like a Samaritan." This one entry, Father of the Flame, was the reason you purchased tickets to the film fest, and for good reason. As a brother/sister of the briar, it's an all-too-rare occasion when one can run across a modern day depiction of this thing we do in a positive light, and well, there has never (repeat never) been a documentary about the art, science, craft, mythos and practice of pipe smoking.
