Sutliff pipe tobacco maker has operated in Richmond for 60 years


 
(Richmond Times-Dispatch) Few companies can claim the kind of longevity Sutliff Tobacco Co. has seen.
The company started out as a small cigar and pipe tobacco retail store opened by H.W. Sutliff in San Francisco during the Gold Rush of the 1840s.
About 70 years later, Sutliff started producing pipe tobacco, including its flagship brand, Mixture 79, which became a popular choice among pipe smokers and helped propel the company to national prominence. Continued
