York, PA (YDR) Dave Smith of Philadelphia placed his foot atop a 140-year-old rectangular tin box, plucked a single string and smiled at the sound he heard.
"Wow. That's got a nice little tone to it," he said of a handmade upright bass.
Smith and his son Cooper, 15, were at the 3rd Annual Pennsylvania Cigar Box Guitar Festival on Saturday at the York Emporium on West Market Street in York. Cooper plays acoustic guitar and recently took up the art of making guitars from a cigar box.
