(Louisville Courier-Journal) FRANKFORT, KY. - The evolution of tobacco farming isn’t apparent at first glance as Carla Canonero Phillips works on the 10-foot-by-60-foot mural in an upper floor of the Old Y on Bridge Street.
Twelve 5-foot panels, some bowing against the Y’s 10-foot ceilings, are spread out along the second floor and depict five eras of tobacco planting — commonly known as “setting” — over the past 200 years.
The panels will become a mural on the side of John and Pat Craigmyle’s Owen County barn along U.S. 127 North. It’s part of the Owen County Agricultural Trail Committee’s project to preserve local tobacco barns by showcasing the area’s history with agriculture and farming. Continued
