It's time for El Tiante

(Boston Herald) During his breathtakingly long Hall of Fame speech in 2000, Carlton Fisk called Luis Tiant “the best and most colorful pitcher I ever caught, and the best and most colorful pitcher in Red Sox history.”
Colorful? Nobody will ever deny that the cigar-smoking, ever-smiling El Tiante, a man with a delivery so funky that he could wink at fans in the center field bleachers while in his full windup, was a colorful baseball personality.
But being colorful, in and of itself, doesn’t get you into the Hall of Fame. So let’s focus on the other superlative in Fisk’s verbal bouquet, the part about how Tiant was the best pitcher he ever caught, and, indeed, the best pitcher in Red Sox history. Continued
