(thespec.com) BRANTFORD [Canada] - Thieves are taking advantage of low tobacco prices to target bales farmers have stored away while they wait for the price to rise.
That’s the OPP’s take on a spate of late-night tobacco thefts — two in 48 hours totalling 46 bales estimated to be worth between $45,000 and $55,000 — from area farms.
Now the OPP is hoping rural residents will keep their eyes open at night and call police if they see something suspicious such as a truckload of tobacco on the road, or trucks in fields. Continued
