(Financial Chronicle) In a move to regulate the tobacco crop size in next season, Tobacco Board is contemplating a differential penalty for registered and unregistered tobacco growers to deal with excess and unauthorised tobacco production.
“The penalty for unregistered tobacco growers will be more than what it will be for registered tobacco growers,” Tobacco Board chairman G Kamala Vardhana Rao told Financial Chronicle.
Currently, the penalty levied for both registered and unregistered farmers for excess crop is same. In a way, this puts the registered farmers at a disadvantage, as the penalty is same as unregistered farmers. Continued
