(RNW) Beedi is often called ‘the poor man’s smoke’. The thin cigars filled with tobacco flakes are wrapped with the tendu leaves grown in many South Asian countries. In India, over three million people produce these handmade cigarettes. Most of these workers are illiterate and come from very poor backgrounds. Continued
