Hand-Rolled and Hand-Delivered: Sierra Madre's Cigar Factory


(Sierra Madre Patch) While it is doubtful that Emile Deutsch's Sierra Madre cigar factory had anything like a lector--the storyteller character in Nilo Cruz's play Anna in the Tropics who reads Tolstoy's Anna Karenina to employees while they work--it did enjoy the choice position of being located in Town Hall, the central business hub of Sierra Madre, where factory workers might have overheard any number of interesting conversations about city affairs.
